Second Trimester of Pregnancy
The golden middle months of pregnancy
The second trimester of pregnancy is often described as the most comfortable stage — a time when many mums-to-be feel a renewed sense of energy and ease. Between weeks 13 and 27, morning sickness often fades, your bump begins to show, and those first tiny flutters soon turn into stronger kicks, reminding you of the little life growing inside.
This trimester, your baby’s features become more defined, organs continue to mature, and their movements grow more noticeable each week. For many parents, this is when the journey starts to feel real, as ultrasound scans reveal more detail and the bond with your baby deepens.
Gentle exercise, nourishing foods, and good rest can help you feel your best, while check-ups and prenatal classes guide you through the changes. Above all, the second trimester is about embracing the balance between enjoying this special time and planning for the exciting months to come.

Nuturing you through the middle months
The second trimester often brings a sense of balance — a stage where your baby’s growth becomes more noticeable and you may start to feel those first gentle movements. It’s a time of change, excitement, and sometimes new questions as your body continues to adapt. During the second trimester, detailed assessments help provide a clearer picture of your baby’s growth and development.
At Thomson Medical, we offer Foetal Anomaly Scan (Obstetric Ultrasound), Foetal Anomaly Scan with Uterine Doppler, Cervical Length Assessment, and, where recommended, Amniocentesis. Alongside these checks, guidance on nutrition, lifestyle, and ways to manage common changes can offer reassurance and support as you continue through this stage of pregnancy.
At every stage, our focus is on walking beside you — offering gentle guidance, listening to your concerns, and helping you feel more at ease as you and your baby continue to grow together.
Scans for second trimester
- Foetal Anomaly Scan – Obstetric Ultrasound: A detailed ultrasound that examines your baby’s anatomy and growth.
- Foetal Anomaly Scan with Uterine Doppler: Combines the anomaly scan with an assessment of blood flow in the uterine arteries to give additional information.
- Cervical Length Assessment: Measures the length of the cervix to help evaluate the risk of preterm birth.
- Amniocentesis: A diagnostic test that may be recommended in certain situations to provide more information about chromosomal or genetic conditions.
