Immunization is an important way to protect your children from certain preventable diseases. Even in adults, vaccine-preventable diseases such as flu (influenza), pneumococcal disease, measles, human papillomavirus (HPV) and Hepatitis B, continue to infect many each year. To keep yourself and your loved ones healthy, it is recommended to get regular vaccinations for such diseases.
Influenza, commonly known as the "flu", is a contagious disease that can affect anyone including healthy people. It attacks the respiratory tract in humans (nose, throat, and lungs), causing inflammation of the mucous membranes. Flu is usually more severe than the common cold and can be deadly if the condition triggers life-threatening complications like pneumonia.
Getting a yearly flu vaccine is the best preventive measure to protect you and your family from the flu virus.
HPV, or human papillomavirus, is a sexually transmitted virus that can affect both men and women into adulthood. For most people, HPV clears on its own but if not cleared, it may lead to certain cancers and diseases. Gardasil 9 is one of 3 approved vaccines for use in Singapore.
Gardasil 9 helps protect against certain cancers and diseases caused by 9 types of HPV such as cervical cancer, vulvar and vaginal cancers in women, anal cancer, certain head and neck cancers (throat and back of mouth cancers), and genital warts.
