Dr Chew Chee Ping is an Orthopaedic Surgeon currently practising at Alpha Joints & Orthopaedics in Napier and Orchard.
Dr Chew has managed patients ranging from competitive national athletes with acute injuries to elderly patients with degenerative conditions.
His specialty is orthopaedics, with a subspecialty in sports medicine. His clinical practice covers shoulder, knee and sports-related ankle conditions. For knee conditions, he performs arthroscopic surgery for ligament, meniscus and cartilage injuries. His practice also includes knee preservation surgery such as knee osteotomies and knee joint replacements. For shoulder conditions, he performs arthroscopic surgery for instability, rotator cuff tendon injuries and frozen shoulder. He also performs shoulder joint replacements. Dr Chew manages sports-related ankle injuries and performs ankle arthroscopy and ankle ligament reconstruction. Other conditions he manages include tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, back and neck pain, sciatica (nerve impingement), bunions (hallux valgus), trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, and lumps and bumps on the extremities. His practice is focused on adult patients.
Dr Chew obtained his MBBS(Singapore) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2003. He obtained MMED(Ortho)(S'pore) in 2013 after completing his specialist training in Singapore. In 2014, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Orthopaedics) and obtained FRCS(Ortho)(Edin). Under an MOH scholarship, Dr Chew pursued a one-year clinical fellowship at Charité-Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany. There, he trained under Prof Markus Scheibel and Prof Carsten Perka in shoulder and knee surgery, including open and arthroscopic techniques, as well as lower limb arthroplasty. Further training included an AO Trauma Fellowship with Prof Ralph Hertel in Bern, Switzerland. This fellowship focused on the management of shoulder injuries and degenerative conditions.
Prior to private practice, Dr Chew was at Sengkang General Hospital's orthopaedic department. There, he served as head of the Sports Service and as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. He was also a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Singapore General Hospital. During his time at Sengkang General Hospital, he contributed to the establishment of the hospital's orthopaedic department and services.
Dr Chew received the “Service with a Heart Award” at Singapore General Hospital in 2014 and the “You Sparkle! Silver Award” at Sengkang General Hospital in 2017. He has chaired and served as faculty for local and regional courses on trauma and shoulder arthroscopy. His educational activities also include conducting workshops for General Practitioners. He delivers public and corporate talks on orthopaedic topics. Dr Chew has presented at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals. He has also served as a specialty reviewer for local and international journals. From 2015 to 2017, he received the “Reviewing with Distinction Award” from the Singapore Medical Journal for three consecutive years.
