Dr Chong Chern Hao is a Gastroenterologist currently practising at Acorn Gastroenterology in Farrer Park, Napier, Telok Kurau Road, and Orchard.
With extensive experience in hepatology (liver disease), Dr Chong has managed a wide range of cases and contributed to numerous clinical trials, including those involving viral hepatitis B and C, liver cirrhosis, and liver transplantation. He is also trained in advanced endoscopic techniques such as enhanced imaging endoscopy and water-immersion colonoscopy, a specialised method that improves success rates in challenging procedures and enhances detection of colon cancer.
His areas of practice include general gastroenterology, digestive cancer screening, and liver disorders. He has subspecialty interests in fatty liver, viral hepatitis, liver cancer, and other liver-related disorders. Dr Chong also manages gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). His procedures include capsule endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, and procedural sedation.
Dr Chong graduated from the University of Malaya in 2009 as a Dean’s List student and began his medical career in Singapore as a house officer. He then pursued specialist training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology under the National University Health System (NUHS) Residency Program, earning his Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP) and Master of Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 2013. In 2016, he was accredited as a specialist in Gastroenterology by the Ministry of Health and was admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore.
Before entering private practice in 2019, Dr Chong held consultant positions at National University Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, and Woodlands Health Campus. Upon completion of his tenure, he joined Woodlands Health Campus as one of the first few medical specialists involved in hospital operation planning. In 2017, he led the medical team that piloted the first medical ward there.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Chong is a board member of the Chapter of Gastroenterologists from 2017 to 2023 where he has helped shape professional guidelines for the Academy of Medicine Singapore. He was also core faculty for the NUS and NHG Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine Residency programmes and was involved in the training of young gastroenterologists and internal medicine physicians. He also served as a clinical lecturer for medical students from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
