Dr Christopher Kong San Choon

Dr Christopher Kong San Choon is a Consultant Gastroenterologist who currently practises at Pro Digestive Gastroenterology in Farrer Park.

He has extensive experience in managing a wide range of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and pancreatic conditions. He has a particular interest in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), liver and bile duct disorders, pancreatic diseases, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and gastrointestinal cancers. Dr Kong is skilled in performing a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), capsule endoscopy, Fibroscan and small bowel enteroscopy, using both balloon-assisted and motorised spiral techniques.

Dr Kong graduated from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1999. He completed specialist training in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in the UK and was accredited to the UK Specialist Register in 2007. In recognition of his research in IBD, he was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine in 2008. He later completed an Endoscopic Ultrasound fellowship at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, under Singapore’s Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP).

Before entering private practice, Dr Kong held senior roles at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), where he served as Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre. He later established and led the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Sengkang General Hospital.

Other than clinical work, Dr Kong remains active in research and education. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, conducted clinical trials, and served as Clinical Fellow in Interventional Endoscopy at University College Hospital, London. He also teaches at Duke-NUS Medical School and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

In 2019, he performed Southeast Asia’s first motorised spiral enteroscopy, a technique that allows for comprehensive small intestine evaluation in less time than usual enteroscopy. 

Dr Kong is accredited to perform gastroenterological procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
