Dr Leong Swan Swan is a Senior Medical Oncologist at Thomson OncoCare Cancer Centre, located in Novena.
With more than 30 years of clinical experience, she provides specialised care for a wide range of solid tumours, with particular clinical interests in lung cancer, thyroid cancer, and head and neck cancers such as nasopharyngeal and oral cancers. Dr Leong also manages breast, colorectal, gastric, oesophageal, gynaecological cancers, as well as rarer tumour types including sarcomas, mesothelioma, thymomas and thymic carcinomas. Her expertise encompasses systemic therapies such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
Dr Leong obtained her medical degree and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the National University of Singapore. She was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 1995 and began specialist training in Medical Oncology soon after. In 1997, she was awarded a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship for subspecialty training in Thoracic Oncology at Hollings Cancer Centre in the United States. She received Specialist Accreditation in Medical Oncology in 2000 and holds certification from the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
Before entering private practice, Dr Leong served as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Medical Oncology. She contributed actively to multidisciplinary tumour boards and was regarded as a key opinion clinician in lung and head and neck cancers. Her previous roles include Visiting Consultant at Changi General Hospital, Director of the Ambulatory Treatment Unit at the National Cancer Centre, and Chairperson of the Code Blue Team. She has also been involved in teaching medical students, junior clinicians and nurses, and has delivered public education talks on cancer care.
Dr Leong has a strong interest in clinical and translational research, particularly in lung and head and neck cancers. She has led more than 10 clinical trials, with several contributing to the development of targeted therapies. Her work has been published in journals such as Journal of Clinical Oncology, Chest and Cancer, and she has authored book chapters on lung cancer management. She has also served as a reviewer for multiple medical journals and is a member of the American Society of Oncology, Singapore Society of Oncology and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).
Dr Leong is accredited to perform medical oncology procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
