Dr Nor Azhari Bin Mohd Zam

Dr Nor Azhari Bin Mohd Zam is a Senior Consultant Urologist currently practising at Asian Healthcare Specialists on Thomson Road and Novena.

Dr Azhari has more than 20 years of clinical experience and is the earliest urologist in Singapore to perform ultrasound-guided puncture of the kidney in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) surgery, which significantly reduces the risk of intraoperative complications, and he has performed a high number of this surgery for large or complex kidney stones.

He subspecialises in endourology and kidney stone disease, with extensive experience in managing kidney stones, including complex cases and patients with high-risk medical conditions. His clinical services include extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy, ureteroscopy, and retrograde intra-renal surgery, as well as metabolic evaluation and preventive strategies for stone recurrence. He also performs laparoscopic surgery for malignant and benign conditions of the urinary tract, including kidney cancer and kidney cysts.

Dr Azhari graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2001 and completed his urology training at Singapore General Hospital in 2009, where he received the College of Surgeons Gold Medal and the European Board of Urology (EBU) Book Prize. He subsequently undertook fellowship training in laparoscopic surgery and endourology at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, Australia, in 2010.

Prior to private practice, he served in the Department of Urology at Singapore General Hospital, where he was appointed Consultant in 2011 and Senior Consultant in 2016, and from February 2016 to November 2023, he was Director of Endourology (Urinary Stone Service). He was also a Senior Consultant in the Division of Surgery and Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Centre Singapore.

Dr Azhari has been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and held Adjunct and Clinical Assistant Professor appointments at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. He also served as Clinical Block Lead for Urology at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and continues to train urologists locally and regionally in kidney stone surgery, including as a course director and faculty for surgical workshops. He is the founding course director for the SGH Retrograde Intra-renal Surgery hands-on workshop and a recipient of the SGH Long Service Award (20 years).
