Dr Roland Chong is a Consultant Gastroenterologist currently practising at The Gastroenterology Group, with clinics in Napier and Novena.
His clinical interests include therapeutic endoscopy and hepatology, with a particular focus on diagnosing and managing complex digestive and liver disorders.
Dr Chong graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1980 and went on to obtain postgraduate degrees in internal medicine from the Royal Colleges of Physicians in the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as from the National University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh and Ireland, as well as the Academy of Medicine in Singapore. Dr Chong also completed a Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) fellowship in gastrointestinal and liver services at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
Prior to private practice, Dr Chong served as Director of the Endoscopy Centre at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and was actively involved in clinical training and education. From 1996 to 2021, he continued to serve as a Visiting Consultant to the Departments of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine at SGH.
Dr Chong has contributed to the development of national clinical guidelines on the use of antibiotics, management of hepatitis B, and use of steroids in general practice. His research in hepatology earned the Young Investigator’s Prize at the Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver in 1990. He has also served on the Supreme Court’s Panel of Medical Assessors.
Dr Chong is accredited to perform gastroenterological procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
