Dr Saumya Shekhar Jamuar is a paediatrician currently practising at Orchard.
Dr Jamuar is recognised for his work in genomic medicine. In 2015, he played a role in identifying the first known case of a rare genetic condition now referred to as Jamuar Syndrome.
With a sub-speciality in genomic medicine, Dr Jamuar specialises in paediatric genetics, precision health, and the diagnosis of rare conditions. His clinical interests include genetic disorders, childhood undiagnosed diseases, neurodevelopmental genetics, and newborn and child health. In his practice, he assesses children with unexplained developmental delay, epilepsy, speech impairment, recurrent infections, suspected inherited conditions, and complex medical problems with a possible genetic basis. He also provides general paediatric and newborn care, including routine health checks, vaccinations, developmental monitoring, and acute illness management. Where appropriate, genetic testing may support diagnosis and care.
Dr Jamuar graduated from the National University of Singapore. He completed paediatric training at SingHealth. Fellowship training in clinical genetics was undertaken at Harvard Medical School. He also completed post-doctoral training at the Christopher A. Walsh Lab at Harvard Medical School.
Prior to private practice, Dr Jamuar was a Senior Consultant at KK Women's and Children's Hospital in Singapore. He also held leadership roles at SingHealth Duke-NUS, including Director of the Institute of Precision Medicine and inaugural Head of the Genomic Medicine Center. In addition, he served as Lead Principal Investigator of the Singapore Childhood Undiagnosed Disease Programme and Chair of the Chapter of Genomic Medicine, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr Jamuar is active in research, medical education, and precision medicine. His work in genomic medicine and rare disease research has been published in journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Genetics, Neuron, and Nature Communications.
Dr Jamuar is accredited to perform medical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
