Our mission to bring specialist surgical care closer to our patients, saw us successfully launch our Day Surgery Operating Theatre (DSOT) at Thomson Specialists (Paragon), a space designed to support a range of procedures in a convenient city center location.

But what does it take to prepare for a safe and seamless outpatient surgery?
At Thomson Specialists (Paragon), it begins long before the first procedure is performed.
Behind the smooth execution of our first procedure, an Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy (OGD) and colonoscopy led by colorectal surgeon Dr Chong Choon Seng, is the seamless collaboration of our entire team in the centre. From the meticulous planning and coordination undertaken by our operations colleagues to the preparation of medication and equipment checks by our nurses, no effort is spared in ensuring that everything runs seamlessly from before the patient arrives for the procedure, to recovery after its completion.

“It’s an achievement to be a part of this as a nurse,” shares Staff Nurse Rena Issac when asked about her involvement with the new DSOT in Thomson Specialists (Paragon).
She adds, “It’s very convenient that there’s a DSOT in the heart of Orchard Road, where patients can come and do [procedures such as] scopes. It’s accessible, fast, so they can go home quicker.”

First Procedures Performed: OGD and Colonoscopy
Experiencing persistent abdominal discomfort, the patient consulted Dr Chong Choon Seng, who recommended an OGD and colonoscopy to investigate and understand the cause of the symptoms for an accurate diagnosis. The procedure was completed smoothly, after which the patient recuperated in the recovery room before being safely discharged the same day.
These case marks the realisation of a broader vision, where patients in Singapore can access timely, coordinated care in centrally located facilities with trusted medical professionals.
