Dr Alex Tham Chengyao is an Otorhinolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat) – Head and Neck Surgeon currently practising at Asian Healthcare Specialists on Thomson Road.
Fellowship training in Advanced Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery distinguishes Dr Tham’s practice. He also specialises in minimally invasive snoring and sleep apnea treatments. In addition, he has trained in medical centres across Canada. As an instructor and speaker at international rhinology conferences, he shares insights and advancements in the field.
His practice covers comprehensive general ENT care for adults and children. He manages sinus problems such as allergic rhinitis, sinus infections and nasal polyp. He also provides personalised treatment options for chronic snoring and sleep-related concerns. His special interests include allergy, rhinology and endoscopic sinus surgery.
Dr Tham completed his medical school training at the National University of Singapore. He then completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery under the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-I) programme in Singapore. During this period, he obtained membership with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and earned a Master of Medicine (Otorhinolaryngology) from NUS. In 2021, he was awarded the Ministry of Health Scholarship for a one-year clinical fellowship in Advanced Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery at the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada.
Prior to private practice, Dr Tham served as a Consultant at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He was also a Visiting Consultant to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Other than clinical practice, Dr Tham supports evidence-based medicine through international peer-reviewed journal publications, conference presentations worldwide, and co-authoring book chapters. He has served as a Clinical Core Faculty Member at the National Healthcare Group Residency, Adjunct Clinical Faculty at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Nanyang Technological University), and Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (National University of Singapore).
His teaching work also includes serving as a regular examiner for medical school examinations and as faculty at local and international ENT conferences and courses. He currently serves as the honorary secretary in the Chapter of Otorhinolaryngologists, College of Surgeons, Singapore, as well as the treasurer of the ASEAN Rhinologic Society.
Dr Tham is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
