Dr Eng Soh Ping Elliot is a Senior Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat) Surgeon practising at The Ascent Ear Nose Throat Specialist Group, with clinics located in Orchard, Thomson Road, and Telok Kurau Road.
In December 2006, Dr Eng became the first ENT surgeon in South East Asia to perform the semi-implantable hearing aid (Retro-X). He also pioneered injection laryngoplasty and introduced laser assisted middle ear surgery when he served in Changi General Hospital.
Dr Eng’s subspeciality focus covers Ear-Hearing-Balance and Throat-Voice Disorders. In clinical practice, he manages adult and children’s ENT conditions. His interests include ear and hearing problems, voice disorders, sore throat, neck lumps, thyroid, and salivary gland conditions, nose-sinus diseases, obstructive sleep apnoea, and childhood related conditions. Through his collaboration with KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Dr Eng is qualified to treat all paediatric ENT conditions, including hearing implantation for deaf children.
Dr Eng graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1991 and began his Basic Surgical Training in 1994. In 1998, he completed Advanced Surgical Training at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (Glasgow) and Ninewells Hospital (Dundee), where he successfully obtained his specialist degrees and was conferred Fellowships in the Royal Colleges in Edinburgh and Ireland. In 2004, he underwent sub-specialty training in the field of Otology and Laryngology under the national health scholarship (SingHealth Health Manpower Development Programme). Subsequently, he travelled under the prestigious national scholarship (SingHealth Health Manpower Development Programme Award) to train with renowned world experts at the University of Toronto (Canada), University of Wisconsin (USA), UCL de Mont Godinne (Belgium) and Portmann Ear Institute (France), further developing his subspecialty interests.
Prior to starting his private practice in ASCENT Ear Nose Throat Specialist Group, Dr Eng served as a consultant surgeon where he helped develop the Ear & Hearing service and provided sub-specialty care in Voice and Throat management. At the same time, he maintained his interest in Children ENT management by collaborating with KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital as a Visiting Consultant.
A strong advocate in education, Dr Eng remains committed to give educational talks to doctors as well as the public and regularly mentors students in his clinic. He was a reviewer of the Singapore Medical Journal and European ENT Journal and has published many articles and book chapters. He was also the co-director of the 4th Asia Pacific Otology Meeting and co-director of the Singapore ENT Laser Course.
Dr Eng is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
