Dr Chong Chew Wei is a Hand Surgeon currently practising at Hand Surgery Associates in Novena, Napier, Alvernia, Parkway East and Orchard.
Dr Chong was accredited by the Ministry of Health as a specialist hand surgeon in 2015. In her clinical practice, she performs microsurgical repair of nerves and blood vessels, soft tissue reconstruction and finger replantation. She also manages hand and wrist fractures, compressive neuropathy, tendinopathy, arthritis, and ligament injuries of the fingers and wrists. Her clinical interests include endoscopic cubital tunnel release and arthroscopic triangular fibrocartilage repair of the wrist.
Dr Chong graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2002. She later obtained her higher surgical qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Her specialist training in hand surgery was completed at Singapore General Hospital, Dr Chong also spent a year at the Department of Plastic Surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Linkou), where she trained under Professor Fu-Chan Wei and Professor David Chuang. In 2016, she obtained her Master of Medical Sciences in microsurgery. Her qualifications include MB, BCh, BAO (NUI), MRCS (Edin), M Med Sc and FAMS (Hand Surgery). In 2022, she received the SGH Scholarship for MS-PhD studies in Health Professions Education at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions.
Prior to private practice, Dr Chong served in the Department of Hand Surgery at Singapore General Hospital from 2009 to 2024. She was a Senior Consultant in Hand Surgery before leaving the institution. Her previous educational leadership appointments included Programme Director of the SingHealth Hand Surgery Residency Programme. She also served as Associate Programme Director of the National Integrated Programme for Hand Surgery Residency Training.
In health professions education, Dr Chong currently oversees the specialist training programme for hand surgery in Singapore. She holds teaching appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and DUKE-NUS Medical School. Her research and peer-reviewed publications cover functional tendon reconstruction and hand infections. Dr Chong speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and Malay. Outside clinical practice, she enjoys hydroponics and diving.
Dr Chong is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
