Dr Lai Jen Ming is a Specialist Hand Surgeon practising at the Centre for Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery, with clinics located in Orchard and Novena.
Dr Lai’s clinical practice focuses on hand, wrist, and peripheral nerve surgery, with a particular interest in wrist arthroscopy and minimally invasive techniques. He provides rehabilitative and surgical care for fractures, peripheral nerve conditions, tendon disorders such as trigger finger and De Quervain tenosynovitis, infections, arthritis, ligament injuries, and soft tissue conditions of the hand and wrist, including complex injuries such as lacerations and crush injuries. His procedural practice includes point-of-care ultrasound for diagnosis and guided interventions, ultrasound-guided injections, percutaneous trigger finger release, and endoscopic procedures such as small joint and wrist arthroscopy and nerve release.
Dr Lai obtained his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2008 and became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (United Kingdom) in 2011. He entered the National Healthcare Group Hand Surgery Residency Programme in 2012 and was accredited as a Specialist in Hand Surgery in 2018. In 2020, he was awarded the Ministry of Health Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship to undergo advanced training in microsurgical reconstruction in Taiwan.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Lai was appointed as an Associate Consultant in the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital from 2018 to 2020. He subsequently served as a Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and later at Singapore General Hospital’s Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery, where he also provided paediatric hand surgery emergency coverage at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He continues to serve as a Visiting Consultant at Singapore General Hospital’s Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery Department and at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
From 2018 to 2024, Dr Lai served with Woodlands Health’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, where he contributed to establishing the hand surgery service and was actively involved in patient safety and quality initiatives as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee. He also served as Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson of the Quality Day organising committees.
Dr Lai is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
