Dr David Lau Pang Cheng is an ENT Surgeon currently practising at Advanced ENT Centre at Napier and is a visiting consultant at Thomson Specialists (TMC).

With 30 years of experience in this field, he pioneered the use of transnasal esophagoscopy in ENT practice in Singapore. He also pioneered the use of office-based injection techniques for vocal fold paralysis in Singapore. In 2019, he was the organising president for the first Asia Pacific Laryngology Association Conference in Singapore.

Dr Lau’s practice covers ear, nose, and throat disorders in both adults and children. He has subspecialty interests in laryngology, as well as the medical and surgical management of nasal allergies and sinus disorders. In particular, he manages throat, voice and swallowing disorders, sleep apnoea, hearing loss, and common paediatric ENT conditions. His expertise also includes laryngeal stroboscopy for diagnosis, care of the occupational and performing voice, including singers, micro-laryngeal surgery of the vocal folds, and the management of vocal fold paralysis. In addition, he performs endoscopic sinus surgery and other selected procedures for sinus and airway conditions.

Dr Lau graduated from the University of Nottingham, UK, with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Medical Science in 1987, followed by his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1989. He went on to complete his early surgical training in the United Kingdom at St Mary's Hospital in London, the Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street, and Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. In 1996, he received his Fellowship in Otolaryngology from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Laryngology and Voice Disorders at the University of British Columbia in Canada from 2000 to 2002, where he also earned a Master of Science in Surgery. Dr Lau was then admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore in 2004.

Before entering private practice, Dr Lau trained in ENT at Singapore General Hospital, where he later established the Voice Clinic and the ENT allergy service. During his hospital years, he also co-directed sinus surgery courses and led the first SGH ENT Laser Workshops in 2008 and 2012. He also directed the first Trans-nasal Esophagoscopy Workshop in 2008 and the Workshop on Multidisciplinary Management of Dysphagia and Swallowing in 2010.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Lau was a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is currently on the examining board of the Master of Medicine and Academy of Medicine Otolaryngology examinations. He has presented at local, regional and international otolaryngology conferences and has won awards for his clinical and research work, including at the COSM meeting in the USA. His research has been published in journals such as The Laryngoscope, Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Clinical Otolaryngology, and Head and Neck.
