Dr Denis Cheong is a general surgeon with over 20 years of experience, practising at Thomson Specialists (TMC) and the PanAsia Surgery Group, located in Orchard and Joo Chiat. He specialises in colorectal and laparoscopic surgery.
Dr Cheong provides specialised care in a range of surgical areas, with a focus on colorectal and laparoscopic procedures. His services include treatment of anal disorders such as haemorrhoids, fistulas, and fissures; laparoscopic treatment of colon and rectal cancers; management of diverticular disease and gallbladder disorders; hernia repair; and thyroid surgery.
Dr Cheong graduated from the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Medicine in 1983. He then pursued further training in General Surgery, obtaining his Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1989. His commitment to continuous learning is evident through his multiple Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) awards, which allowed him to train at prestigious institutions worldwide, including Cleveland Clinic Florida, St Mark's Hospital in London, Karolinska Institute, Uppsala University in Sweden, and various Australian centres (Australasian Endosurgery Centre in Brisbane and Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney) specialising in laparoscopic and colorectal surgery.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Cheong held the position of Senior Consultant in the General Surgery department at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in developing the hospital's colorectal surgery services and served as the Head of Colorectal Surgery. He was also instrumental in establishing and directing the Digestive Disease Centre, as well as initiating the medical and radiation oncology services at the hospital.
Dr Cheong's dedication to medical education is evident in his roles as Senior Clinical Lecturer and examiner at the National University of Singapore's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He has also served as a Visiting Consultant to several prestigious institutions, including KK Women's and Children's Hospital, Johns Hopkins (Singapore) International Medical Center, and the National Cancer Centre in Singapore. Beyond his clinical work, Dr Cheong is actively involved in humanitarian efforts, having participated in Singapore's earthquake relief team to Turkey in 1999.
Dr Cheong is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre, Farrer Park Hospital, and Mt Elizabeth Hospital.
