Dr Goh Yaw Chong is a General Surgeon currently practising at The Goh Yaw Chong Surgery, located in Orchard.
Dr Goh’s subspecialty practice is in gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery, advanced endoscopy, and endoluminal therapy. His clinical work includes the management of gallbladder and common bile duct conditions, abdominal hernias, gastrointestinal tumours and cancers, and selected hepatobiliary conditions. He is experienced in endoscopic interventions such as gastrointestinal endoscopy for early cancer detection, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and endoluminal stenting for obstruction or bleeding.
Dr Goh graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore, in 1992. He was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1996. He subsequently underwent advanced training in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, as well as laparoscopic biliary surgery in Glasgow, United Kingdom. He was awarded a clinician scientist scholarship by the National Medical Research Council and was conferred a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Immunology by the University of Edinburgh in 2005.
Dr Goh returned to Singapore in 2005 and served at Singapore General Hospital, where he held senior appointments in general and upper gastrointestinal surgery. He was previously the hospital’s Director of Gastrointestinal Oncology and continues to serve as a Visiting Senior Consultant in the Department of Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery, where he remains involved in the training of surgical residents in endoscopic diagnostics and therapeutics.
Dr Goh is actively involved in medical education and academia. He has served as Core Faculty in the SingHealth Surgery Residency Programme and received the Outstanding Faculty Award in 2013 and 2014. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Surgery. He has also been recognised with the Singapore General Hospital Long Service Award for more than 20 years of public service and is an instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
Dr Goh is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
