Dr Helen Mi Fang is a Consultant Ophthalmologist who also serves as the Medical Director of the Claris Eye Centre in Orchard.
She has completed fellowship training in vitreoretinal subspecialty care both locally and overseas and focuses on optimising and preserving her patients’ vision to improve their quality of life. Her clinical interests include surgical vitreo-retina, medical retina, myopic retinal conditions, complex cataract surgery, and general ophthalmology. She also manages diabetic eye disease and age-related macular degeneration.
Dr Helen obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, in 2014. During her undergraduate years, she completed a medical elective at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in 2013. She later received the Ministry of Health Training Award for Ophthalmology Residency and attained her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2018. In 2020, she completed her Ophthalmology specialist exit examination and received Specialist Accreditation. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Before entering private practice, Dr Helen completed her local fellowship at NHGEI in 2022. She then pursued an overseas fellowship at the Oxford Eye Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital, in 2023 through the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Training and Development Award.
As an elected Executive Committee Member of the Young Ophthalmologists Chapter, Singapore Society of Ophthalmologists, Dr Helen contributes to events for young ophthalmologists in Singapore and internationally. She has also been a member of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmologists since 2020. At the national level, she supports community eye health programmes, public awareness talks and professional education for residents, optometrists and general practitioners.
Her work also includes clinical research, presentations at local and international ophthalmology conferences, publications in peer-reviewed international ophthalmology journals, book chapters and invited contributions to vitreo-retina magazines such as Retina Specialist. In volunteer service, she has taken part in projects in Singapore, India, and China.
Dr Helen is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
