Dr Kannan Kaliyaperumal is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Specialist Orthopaedic Centre, with clinics located in Farrer Park, Novena, and Telok Kurau Road.
Dr Kannan has a subspecialty interest in lower limb and foot and ankle surgery. His clinical practice includes the management of sports injuries, ligament injuries, tendinopathies, cartilage defects, and arthritis involving the knee, foot, and ankle. He performs arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, reconstructive foot and ankle procedures, deformity correction for flat and high-arched feet, treatment of fractures, diabetic foot conditions, and Charcot joints. His scope of work also includes conventional and robotic total knee replacement, total ankle replacement, osteotomies, and lower limb deformity correction, including selected paediatric conditions.
Dr Kannan graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore and completed Advanced Specialty Training in Orthopaedic Surgery. He subsequently obtained his postgraduate qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He was awarded a Ministry of Health (Singapore) scholarship to pursue subspecialty fellowship training in lower limb reconstructive surgery, with a focus on foot and ankle reconstruction and minimally invasive surgery, in Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Kannan was a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he served as Chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery and founded the hospital’s Foot and Ankle Division. He was involved in developing dedicated foot and ankle services within the public healthcare system before transitioning to private practice and establishing The Specialist Orthopaedic Centre.
Dr Kannan is actively involved in medical education and professional development. He serves as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and is faculty with the National Healthcare Group Residency Programme. His academic interests include cartilage regeneration and the management of cartilage defects, and he has published research in international peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Kannan is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
