Dr Marcus Ling Zhixing is a Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialty focus in spinal surgery. He is trained in minimally invasive and motion-preserving procedures and currently practises at The Orthopaedic & Spine Clinic, located in Orchard, Novena, and Napier.
His clinical practice includes minimally invasive spine surgery (MIS), endoscopic spinal procedures, and disc replacement surgery. He treats spinal conditions such as lumbar spinal stenosis, herniated discs, cervical myelopathy and radiculopathy, osteoporotic vertebral fractures, and adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. He also manages general orthopaedic conditions, including joint degeneration, fractures, back pain, nerve pain, slipped discs, and spinal stenosis.
Dr Ling graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He completed postgraduate training in Orthopaedic Surgery and obtained a Master of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) from NUS in 2014. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2016.
In 2019, Dr Ling was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship to undergo fellowship training at the University of Miami, United States. During his time there, he was trained in complex spinal deformity correction and advanced minimally invasive techniques, including awake endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion, which he later introduced in Singapore.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Ling served as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Singapore General Hospital. He was also Director of Clinical Services at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Spine Centre, where he contributed to the development of clinical pathways and service improvement in spinal care. He continues to support the public healthcare sector as a Visiting Consultant at Singapore General Hospital.
In addition to clinical work, Dr Ling is also involved in education and research. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a Core Faculty Member of the SingHealth Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Programme. He has served as a principal investigator in multiple studies, presented at international medical conferences, and published in peer-reviewed journals. He also participates in academic teaching and surgical training locally and abroad.
Dr Ling is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
