Dr Mark Hon Wah Ignatius is a Senior Consultant ENT Surgeon at Ascent Ear Nose Throat Specialist Group, located in Orchard, Napier Road, Thomson, and Joo Chiat. As a consultant ENT surgeon, he heads the Sleep Services at the specialist group.
His special interests include the treatment of snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea, sleep disorders, nasal obstruction and thyroid lumps. He provides comprehensive assessment and management for patients with sleep-related breathing disorders, offering both non-surgical and surgical treatment options based on individual patient needs.
His educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore (1994), membership with the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh), a Master of Medicine (Otorhinolaryngology) from the National University of Singapore (2002), and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). Additionally, he holds certification as an International Sleep Specialist from the American Board of Sleep Medicine (2006), obtained after completing examinations in the field.
Before entering private practice, Dr Mark worked at Singapore General Hospital where he managed the Sleep Clinic in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and served on staff at the hospital's Sleep Disorders Unit. In this multidisciplinary setting, he collaborated with neurologists, respiratory physicians, psychiatrists, dental specialists, psychologists and sleep technicians to provide comprehensive care for patients with sleep disorders. His public service also included a fellowship in Sleep Surgery at Stanford University, USA, under the SingHealth Health Manpower Development Plan Award (2005), where he trained with specialists in sleep medicine and surgical techniques.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Mark contributes to medical education as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore, teaching medical students and serving on the Board of Examiners for the Masters of Medicine Examinations for ENT. He has organised Singapore's first Sleep Surgery Course (2008) and the inaugural Singapore Sleep Awareness Week (2010), and has held leadership positions including vice president and president of the Singapore Sleep Society. His academic contributions include published articles in medical journals and a textbook for medical professionals about sleep studies.
