Dr Tan Ken Jin is a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon currently practising at Orthosports Orthopaedic and Sports Surgery in Novena.

With a subspecialty interest in Foot and Ankle Disorders and sports medicine, Dr Tan manages sports injuries and arthroscopy of the foot and ankle, foot and ankle trauma, and forefoot deformities such as bunions and hammertoes. His practice also includes adult and paediatric foot deformities such as flat feet and cavus feet, as well as ankle arthritis managed with osteotomies, arthrodesis and ankle replacement. In addition, he treats sports injuries and knee arthritis, including knee arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, and knee replacement.

Dr Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore and underwent Orthopaedic surgical training in Singapore. During this period, he worked in various tertiary hospitals in Singapore and gained wide exposure to orthopaedic surgery. On completion of his advanced speciality training, he was awarded the College of Surgeons Gold Medal. He later completed two separate fellowships in Foot and Ankle Reconstruction under the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan scholarship, the first at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus in Germany and the second at the Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction in the USA.

Prior to private practice, Dr Tan joined the Sports Medicine Division at the National University Hospital, Singapore. He was an active member of the Sports Division and also served as a Visiting Consultant at the Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic at the University Health Centre, NUS, where he treated many sports injuries in university students and staff. During this period, he was also a founding member of the Foot and Ankle Division since its inception at the National University Hospital.

His research interests include lower limb biomechanics, foot and ankle injuries, bone grafting, and fusion biology. He has held competitive research grants to pursue work in these areas and has published more than 20 manuscripts and invited articles in medical journals on various Orthopaedic conditions and their management. In education, he set up the fellowship-training programme at the division, which has trained surgeons from the region in Foot and Ankle reconstruction.

He also served as Program Director of the Foot and Ankle education programme and supervised the training of residents in Foot and Ankle Surgery. In addition, he is an Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, and was a Core Faculty member for the NUHS Orthopaedic Residency Program. Beyond academic work, he has written articles in the local press and spoken at public forums to increase awareness of Foot and Ankle diseases and Orthopaedic conditions.

Dr Tan is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
