Dr Thng Yongxian is a fellowship-trained hepatopancreatobiliary surgeon and the Medical Director of Precision Surgical Centre in Napier and a Visiting Consultant at Thomson Specialists (TMC).
He was the Clinical Lead of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Division at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH), where he pioneered the use of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery for complex pancreatic and liver surgery. Under his leadership, Dr Thng and his team were able to perform minimally invasive surgery on up to 80% of complex hepatopancreatobiliary cases.
He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He completed both basic and advanced surgical training at the National University Hospital and was admitted to the Specialist Accreditation Board of Singapore as a specialist surgeon. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS). He subsequently undertook subspecialty training in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery at Singapore General Hospital, followed by a clinical fellowship in minimally invasive hepatopancreatobiliary surgery at Seoul National University Hospital Bundang in South Korea.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Thng was a Consultant in the Department of General Surgery at NTFGH and the National University Health System (NUHS). During his tenure at NTFGH, he also led the Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Value-driven Outcome (VDO) programme, ensuring quality care for patients requiring a cholecystectomy.
In 2017, he received an A-STAR-Medtech innovation grant to develop a novel wearable insole to monitor foot pressure. Dr Thng has also published in international peer-reviewed journals on the resection of complex liver cancers.
Dr Thng is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
