Dr Yuen Heng-Wai is a Senior Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat) Surgeon practising at The Ascent Ear Nose Throat Specialist Group, with clinics located in Orchard, Thomson Road, and Telok Kurau Road.

With more than 25 years in medical practice, Dr Yuen has a longstanding focus on ear, hearing and balance care. Since 2010, he has performed over 100 cochlear implant surgeries and is experienced in hearing implant procedures.

His subspecialty is in Otology and Neurotology, encompassing conditions of the ear and lateral skull base. His clinical practice covers adult and paediatric ENT conditions. These include ear and hearing disorders, balance conditions, nasal and sinus disorders, throat conditions, thyroid and head and neck conditions, and sleep-related breathing disorders. He manages conditions such as allergic rhinitis, ear infections, cholesteatoma, hearing loss, nasal polyps, thyroid nodules, tinnitus, tonsil and adenoid conditions in children, and voice disorders.

Dr Yuen graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore. He subsequently obtained MRCS (Edinburgh), MMed (Otorhinolaryngology) (Singapore), DOHNS (England), GDFM (Singapore), and Specialist Accreditation in Otorhinolaryngology (Singapore). He was later admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (Otorhinolaryngology). In addition, he holds a Master of Health Professions Education from Maastricht University. After completing specialist training, he underwent subspecialty fellowship training in Otology, Neurotology, Hearing Implants and Lateral Skull Base Surgery at centres in Canada and Australia. He also received the Health Manpower Development Plan award for advanced training in ear surgery.

Prior to private practice, Dr Yuen served at Changi General Hospital, where he later headed the Otology, Balance & Hearing Implant Service. In that role, he was involved in the development of hearing implant services and provided subspecialty care for adult and paediatric patients with ear, hearing and balance conditions. He remains a visiting consultant at Singapore General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Changi General Hospital, Sengkang General Hospital and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

In medical education, Dr Yuen holds Adjunct Associate Professor appointments with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Duke-NUS Medical School, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He participates in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training programmes. He has trained many past and present ear surgeons and has held leadership roles in education and training within SingHealth and Duke-NUS Medical School. His academic work includes publications in peer-reviewed journals, editorial board service for Otology & Neurotology, and board service with the Prosper Meniere Society. He has also received several SingHealth Health Quality Service Awards.
