Senior Physician Chen Fang

“Twelve years ago, I suffered from a severe cough that persisted for several weeks without improvement. Seeking a solution, I visited a neighborhood TCM clinic, and to my surprise, within two days of taking Chinese medicine, my cough significantly improved. I was deeply impressed by the effectiveness of herbs! Since then, TCM has become my passion.” Before relocating to Singapore in 1998, Zhou Chun worked as a resident physician at Shanghai Baoshan Infectious Disease Hospital. In Singapore, she graduated from the Singapore College of TCM and has since specialised in managing a range of internal medicine conditions, including digestive and weight management issues, gynaecology, andrology, and pain management (including Shingles and Bell’s Palsy). Physician Negoro holds double degrees in Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Chinese Medicine from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM). During her two years in Beijing, she completed extensive clinical internships at Dongfang Hospital, collaborating with senior doctors across diverse specialties. Ms. Negoro is dedicated to women’s health, specialising in areas such as menstrual wellness, fertility, gut health, and sleep disorders. She embraces the profound healing capabilities of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), encouraging patients to openly discuss their health concerns for overall well-being. “As a child growing up in a Chinese family, I visited TCM physicians more often than Western practitioners. While I was impressed by the vast array of herbs and medicines, what intrigued me the most was acupuncture and its ability to heal simply by inserting needles into the body. Fast forward two decades, I happened to consult a TCM physician who provided me with information on becoming certified in the field of Chinese Medicine. Since then, I have acquired extensive knowledge and experience as a TCM practitioner, specialising in acupuncture and Chinese herbs.” Physician Ho graduated from the Singapore College of TCM. Over the years, he has applied acupuncture techniques to treat and manage various internal medicine conditions, as well as provide pain management. Senior Physician Ho Wee Kok

“I was born into a family with three generations of medical practitioners. My grandparents have been TCM practitioners since the 1930s, and my mother was a GP who practiced both Western medicine and acupuncture. This upbringing has inspired me to explore better treatment approaches to help patients, and I strongly believe that there is vast untapped potential in TCM!” Dr. Ou graduated from Guangzhou University of TCM and worked as a TCM Physician at Rongqi Hospital in Guangdong, China before relocating to Singapore. In Singapore, she holds the position of senior TCM Physician and serves as a lecturer at the Singapore College of TCM. She obtained her PhD in TCM from Nanjing University of TCM in 2009. Dr. Ou has a keen interest in utilising acupuncture and Chinese medicine for fertility, TCM gynaecology, pain management, confinement care, mental wellness, and gastrointestinal health. Senior Physician Ou Cui Liu

“I first visited a TCM physician in my early 20s when I fell ill for an extended period, which was a new experience for me. Upon a relative’s recommendation, I decided to seek treatment at a TCM clinic. To my surprise, within days of taking Chinese medicine, I experienced immediate improvement in my health. This encounter ignited my interest and passion for TCM, and since then, I have remained dedicated to this field without looking back.”Physician Seah Ai Wei obtained her degree from the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Physician Seah Ai Wei

Physician Ho Chin Ee is a graduate of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) with a Double Degree in Biomedical Sciences and Chinese Medicine with honours. She was awarded a scholarship to pursue a Masters in TCM at BUCM, where she had the opportunity to work alongside renowned physicians in TCM gynaecology, paediatrics, internal medicine, and acupuncture. Ms. Ho’s clinical expertise encompasses the application of TCM Paediatric Tui Na and herbal medicine for children with common respiratory and digestive conditions. In addition, she employs various TCM techniques to effectively treat and manage a range of conditions in adults, including gastrointestinal disorders such as reflux, gastritis, and irritable bowel syndrome. Her expertise extends to women’s health, addressing concerns such as infertility, fibroids, endometriosis, irregular menstrual cycles, and postpartum confinement care. Furthermore, she has a keen interest in TCM dermatology and pain management. With over three decades of experience as an acupuncturist, Ms. Jin specialises in treating patients with fertility and gynaecological issues, pain management (including Bell’s Palsy), anxiety, weight management, sinusitis, insomnia, and gastrointestinal disorders. She believes in a holistic approach to patient care, empowering her patients to understand their body constitution and make informed lifestyle choices. Senior Acupuncturist Jin Jin Hua

With a background in Surveying, Sanye transitioned to health and wellness, driven by a passion for making a meaningful impact on people's lives. She began her journey from whole food cuisine at Wholefood Kitchen, focusing on creating nutritious and flavorful meals. Recognising her passion for empowering and educating women on maintaining health and elegance during challenging times, she decided to further her knowledge by pursuing studies in TCM.She cultivated a deep interest in gynecology and perinatal care during her clinical training in the Gynaecology &amp; Breast Centre at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. Physician Sanye Lam Hoi Yi

Physician Lee is a qualified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner with a robust academic and professional background. She holds dual degrees—a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and a Bachelor of Chinese Medicine—from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM). Additionally, she earned a Master of Public Health from the National University of Singapore (NUS). As a fully registered TCM physician with the TCM Practitioners Board (TCMPB), she is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.Motivated by the effectiveness of TCM in fertility care, Physician Lee has cultivated a passion for supporting couples on their journey to parenthood. She adopts an evidence-based approach to identify the most effective TCM treatments for fertility, with a particular focus on addressing underlying medical conditions such as endometriosis and low ovarian reserve. Recognizing the physical and emotional complexities of fertility challenges, she is committed to helping patients achieve a balanced constitution to optimize their chances of conception.Physician Lee also has a keen interest in endocrinology, with expertise in managing conditions such as thyroid disorders and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Physician Ng Jin Ju graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2010 with a double degree in Biomedical Sciences and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She went on to refine her clinical expertise over six years at a leading TCM charity organization. During this time, she also completed her Master's in TCM, with focus in TCM Oncology. After joining the civil service in 2016, Physician Jin Ju continued to dedicate herself to TCM clinical work by practicing at the Singapore Tzu Chi TCM Free Clinic, ensuring she remained actively engaged with patient care. During her time in the civil service, she also contributed to the formulation of policies for Traditional &amp; Complementary Medicine, a role that reinforced her belief in TCM's vital role in public health. Her clinical expertise encompasses acupuncture for effective pain management, especially for the elderly. She also has keen interest in the holistic management of oncology patients, particularly within gynecological cancers like breast cancer, helping to ease the side effects after conventional western treatment. As a mother herself, Physician Jin Ju deeply understands the challenges and emotional journey couples face in their pursuit of parenthood. Breast lumps during pregnancy are very common. The expectant mother will experience many normal physiological changes ― an increase in breast size, more obvious sweat glands around the nipples, a darkening of the areola ― all of which will prepare her body for breastfeeding.Common non-cancerous variations to breasts include hormonal changes (fibrocystic changes), fibroadenomas, cysts, lipomas, accessory (extra) breast tissue. Pregnancy-related breast cancers make up about 3 per cent of all breast cancers.Whenever a pregnant woman feels a lump, she should see a doctor to get their opinion, keeping in mind that most times it will turn out to be nothing serious!<h2>What the doctor will do</h2>When you see the doctor, she will ask details as to how you detected the lump, how long it has been present and if you have detected any changes, so as to get an idea what the lump is likely to be.Next, the doctor will conduct a breast examination to confirm the presence of the lump, and check for any other symptoms such as skin changes or nipple discharge.Most patients will then be recommended to get an ultrasound scan ― this will give additional information as to whether this lump is benign or cancerous. If there is any concern that the lump may be cancerous, your doctor will advise you as to the pros and cons of having a biopsy, which can be done safely even during pregnancy.“If a pregnant women detects a lump, I would advise them to have a thorough consultation and a physical examination, followed by an ultrasound. Everything You Need to Know About Breast Biopsy

Just as there are skin issues that arise during pregnancy, skin conditions can also develop after you give birth. Fortunately, they are largely treatable, so there is no need to fret – your postpartum skin and hair will bounce back in no time. We take a look at some of the most common conditions.<h2>Melasma</h2>Also known as “the mask of pregnancy”, this pigmentation condition is due to increased melanin production and is caused by a combination of genetic and hormonal factors, as well as sun exposure. It tends to affect Asian skin more, appearing as brownish patches over the cheeks, forehead, temples, nasal bridge, upper lips and jawline.It is best controlled by avoiding the sun and with regular use of sunscreen, lightening creams and topical agents, although it can persist in some cases. Other treatments include chemical peeling, intense pulsed light therapy and certain forms of laser therapy. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding – certain ingredients such as tretinoin and hydroquinone that can be found in some skincare products should be avoided by breastfeeding mums.<h2>Dermatitis/eczema</h2>Eczema or dermatitis is a relatively common yet noninfectious condition, so it will not spread to your baby. Often it is an aggravation of an underlying sensitive skin condition that has been present for some time. For new mothers, it can also develop as a result of excessive water contact due to frequent handwashing.Use moisturiser regularly to soothe inflamed and itchy skin. Topical steroid creams are prescribed to calm inflamed skin and are safe to use even when breastfeeding. Use a gentle soap substitute and continue to moisturise even after the skin rash has settled.<h2>Stretchmarks</h2>Affecting at least 90 percent of pregnant women, stretchmarks are a form of scarring that appear red when fresh, but most will fade to white after delivery. During pregnancy, intensive use of moisturisers may help the condition, and there are specially formulated stretchmark creams on the market that you can continue using after delivery. For more severe cases, dermatologists may prescribe tretinoin cream to use postpartum when you are not breastfeeding. Some skin-tightening laser treatments are safe options to remove stretchmarks even if you are breastfeeding, but these usually require multiple sessions.<h2>Telogen effluvium</h2>This condition results in hair fall that usually occurs about three months after delivery. Though increased hair fall can be distressing to new mothers, it is almost always a self-limiting condition, and you will usually recover within six months. If you notice increased hair fall, consult a doctor to exclude other causes of hair loss (such as low iron levels). Topical medications can be used if you are not breastfeeding.<h2>Acne</h2>Caused by an inflammation in the facial oil glands, acne may be aggravated by hormonal changes. Most of the time, acne clears within a few weeks or months, but medical treatment should be sought to prevent the risk of scarring. There are many topical agents that can be safely used even when breastfeeding. In more severe cases, oral medications such as antibiotics may be required.
