Dr Lee Haw Chou is a fellowship-trained Spine Surgeon currently practising at Synergy Orthopaedic Group, with clinics located in Novena, Farrer Park, and Thomson Road.
Dr Lee subspecialises in spinal surgery and provides care for patients with various spinal conditions. His clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of spinal disorders, while he also provides care for general orthopaedic conditions. In addition to his clinical work, he has been involved in hospital initiatives aimed at improving patient care processes, including programmes related to infection control, thromboprophylaxis and multidisciplinary care for elderly patients with hip fractures.
Dr Lee graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1993. He subsequently completed surgical training and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998. He later completed orthopaedic specialist training under the Singapore Orthopaedic Training Programme and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery, Edinburgh in 2003. He further pursued subspecialty training in spine surgery through fellowship attachments in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United Kingdom, and completed a 12-month fellowship at the University of Missouri in the United States.
Before entering private practice in August 2012, Dr Lee served as Senior Consultant and Chief of the Spine Service in the Department of Orthopaedics at Changi General Hospital. He established the hospital’s spine service in 2009 and was involved in training spine surgeons as well as developing multidisciplinary care programmes to support patients through surgical treatment and recovery.
Dr Lee has also been involved in healthcare quality improvement and clinical research. He has received grants from the Ministry of Health’s Healthcare Quality Improvement Fund for projects focused on improving clinical processes and patient care. He has authored publications in peer-reviewed journals and served as a Principal Investigator for a National Medical Research Council grant. In addition, he teaches undergraduate medical students and surgical trainees and holds an appointment as Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
Dr Lee is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre.
