Dr Ramesh Subramaniam is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and the Medical Director at Avant Orthopaedics, with clinics in Novena and Telok Kurau.

With over 20 years of clinical experience, he has a special interest in shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, and arthroscopic sports surgery. His surgical expertise includes arthroscopic ligament and cartilage repair, joint reconstruction and joint replacement surgery for the knee, shoulder, elbow and hip. Furthermore, he also has experience in managing rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, meniscus, ligament injuries, and complex fractures.

Dr Ramesh obtained his medical degree and Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He then completed his surgical training and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) in trauma and orthopaedics. He was then awarded a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship to undertake subspecialty training in shoulder and knee surgery in Dublin and Barcelona. He also completed a fellowship in shoulder surgery in Spain and received training in arthroscopic joint reconstruction and joint replacement techniques.

Outside of clinical work, Dr Ramesh has held academic appointments as a Clinical Senior Lecturer and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at NUS. He has also served as a faculty member in the National Healthcare Group Residency Programme, chairing its Hand Surgery Residency Programme Evaluation Committee.

Dr Ramesh has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals and presented his research at global conferences. He has also conducted surgical workshops and training courses in knee and shoulder procedures.

Additionally, Dr Ramesh is actively involved in humanitarian work. He has performed pro-bono surgeries in Indonesia with the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation and participated in medical relief missions with the Singapore Navy’s Indosin Bhakti Sosial programme. He was awarded the Ministry of Health’s Humanitarian Award for his contributions during the Yogyakarta earthquake in 2006.
